About UFP: Starfleet Academy

UFP: Starfleet Academy is a social internet series set in the Prime Star Trek universe. All content on this blog is posted (unless otherwise noted) as if it was written by those who work at Starfleet Academy (San Francisco, Earth) in the year 2376.

The intent of this blog is to re-tell the events of Star Trek (and the now-ended Dominion War) as they happen in real time. In other words, today's date corresponds with the same date in the year 2376. By doing this, all who follow this blog are able to experience the Star Trek universe in a whole new socially-driven way.

We are a direct of extension of our popular, long-standing Facebook page which was established in 2012 to retell the events of Star Trek and the Dominion War.

Please know too, by fan vote, the Star Trek universe of this blog is slightly alternate from the established canon universe. This perspective allows there to be an element of plausible unpredictability to the Star Trek story we all know and love. It also allows us to take a practical approach to overall canon, and correct some of the lingering canon inconsistencies for the sake of better storytelling.

The most notable changes to canon Star Trek are:

1.) The USS Voyager was not lost in the Delta Quadrant. It went searching for Chakotay's Maquis ship (as seen in "Star Trek: Voyager"), however, in our story, it was not pulled into the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker. Voyager was thereafter assigned to missions in the Alpha Quadrant like any Starfleet ship, and fought along the front lines during the Dominion War.

2.) Chakotay's Maquis ship, Val Jean, was pulled into the Delta Quadrant and spent four years trying to get home. You can read about their adventures here:

"Star Trek: Voyager - The Maquis Series That Never Was"

3.) Jadzia Dax does not die, and remains alive as an officer aboard Deep Space 9. She is married to Worf, and the two recently welcomed their first child in January. In addition, Ezri Tigan (the "new" Dax in DS9's 7th season) is still assigned to Deep Space 9, but as an unjoined Trill.
4.) The reality of our story assumes that our real life history (here in 2014) is the foundational past of the Star Trek universe. This means that many early TOS references have been retconned to fit with this idea. For example, Khan and the Eugenics Wars occur during WWIII in the 2050s -- not in the 1990s.

5.) Since Khan is retconned into a practical 21st Century, and there was no DY-100 starship technology during WWIII, Khan did not escape Earth in a space ship. This then affects the Star Trek universe, as Khan was not in space to be discovered by Captain Kirk.

Despite these alternate history changes, our story story remains as respectful of Star Trek canon as possible. If you know canon Star Trek, you'll be able to follow along with our 2376 events. Details are very important to us! As one of our fans recently said, this is "a new twist on an old story".
